C&K Community Spotlight: Table of Grace
Note from the Editor: Within our founding mission from Luke 10:27, our goal is to love our neighbor. We want to be women who love Jesus first and love others well. We’re dedicated to giving back to our community and celebrating with those who do too. Each edition of the C&K Magazine, we’ll have a “Community Spotlight” featuring an organization or individual making a positive difference within the community. We’ll also present them with a C&K Community Spotlight Grant to help with their efforts in sharing God’s love.
Our first COURAGEOUS & KIND Community Spotlight is Grand Avenue United Methodist Church who host the “Table of Grace” a weekly community meal in Hot Springs, Arkansas.
Grand Avenue United Methodist Church (GAUMC) began hosting a weekly community meal in June 2018. Since then, they have faithfully served 60-100 guests each week of the month. Sunday evenings have given GAUMC an opportunity to care and love on their city on a night that most organizations closed their doors. As there aren’t any other community meals offered in Hot Springs on Sunday evenings, the Table of Grace regularly serves over a hundred guests, as well as twenty-seven church helpers.
Most people enjoy at least two servings. The doors open at 4:30PM, there’s musical entertainment from community volunteers, followed by a short devotion. The tables are set with prayer cards and pencils for guests to leave prayer requests. They also have a staffed prayer table for those in need of immediate prayer. Sunday nights at Grand Avenue United Methodist Church is a great time of fellowship and laughter for all involved.
GAUMC also has a Blessing Box outside of the church where they’ve invited people are invited to bring food and toiletries for those in need. This is a blessing to many in the community, including their Table of Grace friends. ️ A few weeks ago, a lady came into the church office, saying that the Blessing Box had enabled her to feed her grandchildren which she is raising. She had some extra money, and wanted to give back. She gave the Pastor $3.00 and was proud to help. With her money, he purchased more food for the Blessing Box!
